LCG: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Life Change Group (LCG)?

An LCG is a small group of believers who journey together in their Christian walk, encouraging and being accountable to one another. LCG members meet regularly to study God’s Word, pray together and share their lives with one another. As much as studying the Scriptures is important, we believe that obedience to the Word is equally important, and so we spend time sharing and encouraging each other to obey our Lord Jesus through our lives.

As a church, the LCG is our primary platform for worshippers to grow as disciples with each other. Most LCGs meet in-person either weekly or fortnightly, either in homes or at church. Members within an LCG are usually from different age groups, which allows for a diverse and richer sharing of perspectives and experiences.

Should I join an LCG?

If you are making WEFC your home church, you should definitely join an LCG! Come join us, and grow deeper in the Lord with fellow brothers and sisters.

I am a new Christian and don't know much about the Bible. Am I ready to join a Life Change Group yet?

Whether you are a new or mature believer, being in an LCG is an important way to grow in your faith. When you study God's Word and share life with other believers, you will grow in your understanding of the Word, learn from others' experiences, and find encouragement and strength in following Jesus as others journey alongside you.

Before joining an LCG, we welcome new believers to attend Christianity Explored (CEx), which we typically hold twice a year, in the first and second half of the year. In this course, the fundamentals of being a Christian are shared and discussed in an informal way. CEx is an interactive and fun way of discovering the basics of the Christian faith, whether one is a new believer or just curious to find out more about Christianity. During each session, participants will watch a video and then discuss a particular topic. Everyone can ask questions and share their view without fear of judgment.

What happens during an LCG meeting?

Each session typically includes a time of worship and prayer, sharing of thanksgivings and struggles, and the study of God’s Word, with the aim of then practically applying God’s Word to our lives. Many of our LCGs also fellowship beyond the LCG meetings — with a meal, outings or just meeting up one-on-one/in smaller groups to share their lives.

How will an LCG help me grow?

Being in an LCG will grow your understanding of God's Word, as you learn to interpret and obey/apply what you learn through the Bible study in practical ways. As different ones in the LCG share their joys and struggles, members also learn to journey with one another in spiritual encouragement and prayer.

What are the commitments of being a member of an LCG?

As a church, we strongly encourage all LCG members to give priority to their LCG meetings amidst other work and church responsibilities. Every member should strive to attend at least 75% of all LCG meetings, so that your LCG leader can better shepherd you in your discipleship journey and spiritual growth.

As a parent with young children, I am worried that they may disrupt our LCG meetings when we meet. How do other parents/families do it?

At present, we do not have a structured program for children, however most LCGs with families that have young children find a way to manage this creatively. For example, some parents arrange baby-sitting and join the meetings without their children; others bring their children to the meetings, and one or two LCG members take turns to look after the children on a rotational basis.

I live quite far from church, so I am worried about travelling very far to attend LCG meetings. Can I join an LCG that is nearer to my home?

We understand that distance and travel time is definitely a concern for some who do not live near church. We also believe that proximity to each other is key to allow members to practically support one another during the week. Rest assured that we do have LCGs that do not meet in Woodlands. We would try our best to recommend you to an LCG that is closer to your home.
