Why Revelation

Hi Church,
It’s been two months since we embarked on the Book of Revelation as a church. When I first announced in early January that we would be anchoring our 2026 sermon series and LCG Bible studies on Revelation, I could feel a palpable sense of apprehension from the church. In truth, Revelation isn’t an easy book to read or to teach. But as with any other book of the Bible, it is essential in painting a complete picture of who God is and what faithful discipleship is meant to look like.
How God led me to Revelation
The prompting in my heart was unmistakable as I sought the Lord on what to preach in 2026. “Tell them to come to My throne — the throne of God.”
Revelation is the best book to learn about God’s throne. God had already changed my negativity towards the book from one of fear to one of hope. But I was still concerned if we could effectively communicate the book’s key message to the whole church, as we navigate its complex and symbolic imagery.
As I brought my concerns to God, and meditated on the themes in Revelation, I was challenged to press on. How could we deprive ourselves of these incredible invitations?
Come to the throne to understand Who I AM.
Come to the throne to receive mercy and grace.
Come to the throne to know My heart for the nations.
I’m thankful for the staff team who said, “Revelation is difficult, but we have time to prepare ourselves to bring the church through this.”
Come to the Throne to understand Who I AM.
As I meditate on the majesty of God's throne, I am confronted with the superficiality of my worship of such an incomparable God! We will be worshipping at the foot of His Throne for eternity. Let us learn to put aside our distractions and to give Him our best worship as we prepare for eternity.
As I meditate on the power of God’s throne, I begin to view all my worries and struggles, temptations and failures in a new light. Our God is in control of everything — even our suffering is permitted only within His defined boundaries. One day, all these painful struggles will be a distant memory so let us persevere with patient endurance.
Come to the Throne to receive mercy and grace.
And God does not leave me to struggle alone.
He promises mercy and grace, calling me to approach His throne with confidence to receive help in my time of need.
So here I am at the foot of the throne of God.
Here I receive encouragement — that He is in control, that victory is certain. And I am strengthened to press on and not give up.
Here I receive help through warnings from His Word for coming temptations and encouragement when I feel discouraged.
Here I receive mercy after failure when I look into His eyes and realise that He still loves me.
Come to the Throne to know my heart for the nations.
The reason Christ hasn’t returned to end all suffering in this world is because of His loving patience and deep desire to see the nations turn to Him in worship.
He calls me to exhibit this same patient endurance in the face of trials, and to put His interests before my own interests.
He reminds me that I am to actively “go make disciples of all nations” and not to sit passively waiting for His return.
Lord, give me this same desire for the nations that will be stronger than my impatience and selfishness!
Are you ready?
Are you excited to come to the foot of the throne of God and to rediscover what life should be about? Are you ready to reevaluate all of your values, priorities, joys and worries in the light of His throne and the reality of eternity?
I pray that you will grow to love the book of Revelation for its potential to recalibrate the whole of your life. More importantly, I pray you will grow to love God more as you discover His heart, dwell on His promises, discern Your priorities, and devote your life to His purposes.
