GO TEAM

The Go Team multiplies disciples by mobilizing the church to go as we serve and witness in both Woodlands outreach and world mission.

What we did

As Covid restrictions relaxed, the Go Team shifted outreach activities from digital to in-person modes. We started Christianity Explored, Community Dinners, and missions trips. Fostering faith in the family for some meant living out our faith to non-Christian family members, while others were able to participate in outreach as a family to Guest Workers and other Woodlnds Social Centre families.

The number of WEFCers growing in evangelism as a lifestyle increased, with opportunities re-opening for missions trips, community outreach, and evangelism training. The church deepened in our understanding of WSC being our community outreach arm and we began planning ministry connections with our new preschool, Little Olive Tree.

Church Outreach:

It was a joy to witness more than 20 friends and family members come to faith through the adult and youth Christianity Explored sessions, youth camp and personal evangelism efforts of WEFCers. We also warmly welcomed a few of our guestworker friends to our Easter and Christmas services.

In August, guest-speaker Joseph Chean reminded us of our legacy as the fruit of missionaries to Singapore and the founders of Bukit Timah EFC, now Woodlands EFC. Out of that legacy, Joseph challenged us to stay faithful to our mission to be disciple-making disciples who transform Woodlands and the world.

The closure of Evangel Kindergarten was bittersweet, but we thank God for leading us to start Little Olive Tree in partnership with Presbyterian Preschool Services and Truth Baptist Church.

Spending time with our guestworkers

Woodlands Social Centre Outreach:

With the easing of Covid restrictions, we held our first Community Dinner at Cana Hall in August, attended by 155 WSC families, volunteers and staff. The adults had a great time catching up over a simple meal while the children had a blast playing games with our youths. In December, we conducted a mini Christmas carnival as part of our Community Dinner, with a photo booth, face painting, ice cream and kacang putih stalls, and more. This was held in conjunction with our annual volunteers’ appreciation, and more than 200 WSC families and volunteers joined us to mingle over food and fun.

Home-improvement with a smile!

In the month of June, the youths organised a kite-flying outing for the WSC children.  Other youths helped to declutter and clean the home of an elderly senior, which left him beaming from ear to ear in appreciation.

Some church youths ran a holiday programme at our Evangel Student Care Centre (Canberra) on 28 November,

In the month of December, many WEFC adults and youths joined us to give WSC and WEFC flyers to residents at Block 806. This created greater awareness of our WSC services and provided a platform for WEFCers to interact with the residents in our Woodlands community.

Boys’ Brigade:

By God’s grace, we raised $30,000 during our annual “BB Week” in 2022. Our enrolment consists of 19 Boys. We were unable to conduct recruitment due to the merger plans of Fuchun Secondary School and Woodlands Ring Secondary School. We will continue to maintain the Company and build up our Boys with the help of our Primers in 2023.

Missions:

The pandemic provided opportunities to develop new outreaches on the mission field and in church. We were grateful to God and various WEFCers who weathered the storm and made missions as vibrant as possible. Digital missions trips became a viable option when we encountered travel restrictions. However, as soon as travel restrictions were lifted, our members began travelling to Vietnam, Thailand and Timor-Leste. We were unable to travel to Japan, but Ginny Lau served for 6 months in Kurdistan and inspired many others upon her return. All glory to God!

Where we are going

In 2023, church wide evangelism efforts continues through tools such as our CNY “gospel” angpows and our own book of God-stories to share with friends and loved ones. We pray with anticipation that new outreach initiatives will bear fruit — Emmaus Men’s Support Group, Shalom Art Jamming, and Little Olive Tree.

Woodlands Social Centre will undergo a major renovation of our premises at Block 830. Community programmes and our social work team will expand, while befrienders will continue reaching families in the community, including our 2 nearby rental blocks.

Missions will plan multiple missions trips and journey with those who are considering One Life One Year and long-term missions opportunities. We look forward to many more WEFCers saying “Yes” to Jesus by reaching Woodlands and the world with the gospel of Christ, through our personal involvement to our neighbours, together with Woodlands Social Centre and on missions trips to the least reached.
