What happened in 2024

Several leadership transitions took place within the Grow Generations Team. Ps Vernon took over Erny's role in overseeing the Little Olive Tree (LOT) as part of Children’s Ministry. Erny, in turn, succeeded Annabel in leading the Youth Ministry, while Annabel now leads the initiative to equip parents to disciple their children, aligning with one of our church's key focuses. Edison Teo took over from Ps Kee Oon as the lay ministry leader of the Men’s Ministry.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
In June, the Chinese Children’s Camp was attended by 43 children, including some from our English congregation and others who do not regularly attend church. Albeit being a diverse group coming from different backgrounds, this was a good opportunity for the children to learn about God’s love and grow in their faith.

Chinese Children's Camp 2024
For Children's Day in October, instead of holding our own celebration, we partnered with Woodlands Social Centre for their Children's Day Carnival. We contributed by running game booths staffed by parents and children from the Children’s Ministry. This partnership allowed us to connect with the wider community, demonstrate God’s love, and encourage families to make a positive impact. It was a joyful experience, and we hope to explore similar opportunities in the future.
In November 2024, we held our English Children’s Camp with 25 participants, lower than expected, but the enthusiastic involvement of our youths was encouraging. They served as Station ICs, creating engaging activities for Primary 1 to 5 children. The smaller group size allowed for better engagement, and we rejoiced in the spiritual fruit — many children rededicated their lives to Jesus, and three received Christ for the first time. We will follow up with their parents to support and nurture their children's faith.
Sunday School teachers currently serve once a month, which limits relationship-building with the children. To foster stronger connections and support their growth, teachers will be challenged to serve twice a month from 2025. Additionally, we will explore ways for the Children’s Ministry and teachers to actively disciple parents, creating a holistic approach for families to grow together in faith. This will involve equipping teachers to engage parents, fostering communication, and providing opportunities for parents to actively support their children's spiritual development.

YOUTH MINISTRY
In 2024 we welcomed a small cohort of Primary 6-ers from the Children’s Ministry, and they have been faithfully led by Ruth Lai and Sim Hui Xiang. This is also the year that Ps Annabel handed the leadership of the Youth Ministry over to Erny after ten years. With this handover, we are seeing a closer alignment of the Youth Ministry to the church focus, under Erny’s leadership, especially in outreach and personal evangelism. A new core team was since formed, composed of Cheong Tze Sung, Samuel Lim, Elder Lee Hern Tzun and Ps Annabel.

We decided to close the Chinese youth LCG end 2024 as the number of youths attending have dwindled for various reasons. The few who are faithfully attending will join the English youth LCGs so they can also benefit from having a wider circle of friends their age.
Youth Camp
Many of our youths invited their pre-believing friends to the Youth Camp. The gospel was clearly presented by Erny and own young adult speakers — Cheong Tze Sung, Chong Jay En, Ng Kai Ern. At least six friends wanted to find out more about Jesus. For the first time, we had a dinner on the last night of the camp where the parents and youths got to eat together and interact with one another. At the camp, we also officially welcomed the Sec 1 youths to the Youth Ministry. This cohort will be led by Titus Kwok, Journee Chay and Jen Osborne.

Funistry
Funistry, which began as an initiative for youths and young adults to bond across age groups, has since evolved into a platform for adults to connect with younger people through games. We are grateful for the enthusiastic participation in events, which has helped WEFCers connect across generations. It is heartening to see Funistry become a catalyst for fostering intergenerational relationships at WEFC.
As adults grow more comfortable connecting with younger members, some LCGs have taken the initiative to plan gatherings with the PathMaker LCGs.

PATHMAKERS
Ironically, 2024 was meant to be a year of rest and consolidation but turned out to be a rather eventful year as the young adults of WEFC spent time building up our Life Change Groups (LCGs), got married, had kids, and welcomed newcomers both from within the church (youths becoming young adults) and without.

There was a restlessness, a spirit of wanting more, even as the Lord stirred and moved among us. 21 men and women responded to God's call to be trained and mentored as leaders to His people. In August, 65 of us came together at the intergenerational YAY (Young Adult & Youth) Leaders Retreat for a deeply meaningful time of soul-searching and bonding among the generations.

As the year came to a close, we saw a renewed commitment among the young adults of WEFC to BE men and women who love God completely with a faith that is as bold yet as simple as that of a child, a commitment to pursue what is of eternal value and not just temporary earthly treasures, and that in this pursuit, we blaze a trail for our church because we are PathMakers and not just pathfinders. We are excited to see where God leads us in 2025!

MARRIAGE

Marriage Mentoring
In 2024, one more couple was trained by Bridging Hearts to serve as Marriage Mentors. We had many opportunities to partner with Fei Yue through Bridging Hearts to mentor pre-believer couples. Additionally, we supported Bridging Hearts in training marriage mentors from other churches by mentoring their trainee couples. These experiences allowed our marriage mentors to sharpen their skills and grow in their roles.
In 2025, we will launch a Couple Check-In program for couples married 4-6 years. This initiative will pair them with marriage mentors to strengthen their relationship during a typically challenging season with the demands of raising young children and other stressors.
Marriage Enrichment Weekend
"The Art of Disagreement" workshop in Batam, attended by 35 couples, included a pastor and his wife from a church in Vietnam. Not only did they benefit from the workshop, but they also returned to organize their own Marriage Enrichment Weekend in Vietnam. We were privileged to have Raymond and Jenny Teo lead the session, teaching us that it’s not what couples fight about that threatens a marriage, but how they fight.

LOVE THE ELDERLY
The Love the Elderly ministry had another fulfilling year serving seniors, caregivers, and the community. At church, the Sunday Kopi Corner expanded, offering not just food and drinks but activities like Rummikub and crafts. We also served at Joyful Weekend each month with various activities.

In 2024, we organized events such as Memories Alive and a Virtual Tour of Chinatown to help seniors reminisce. We also raised awareness about dementia through talks and activities and supported caregivers through the "Caring You, Caring Me" programme. Home visits and care calls were made to engage homebound seniors.

In the community, we offered English lessons at Sri Narayana Mission Senior Care, with an average of 24 seniors per session, and hosted the Seniors Do Life programme at Woodlands Social Centre, with around 28 attendees per session.

We are grateful for our dedicated volunteers who make this ministry impactful and enjoyable, including a meaningful retreat to review our work.

WOMEN'S MINISTRY
The goal of the ministry is to provide a platform for women to connect, grow in understanding of God’s word, and apply it to their lives and community.

In 2024, we began with a book study on The Emotionally Healthy Woman by Geri Scazzero, led by Persis Lim, with 15 women participating in 8 sessions of learning and bonding.

We also hosted a talk on Lasting Power of Attorney and Advance Care Planning by Mr Peter Wong and Dr Angel Lau, attended by 45 people, including church members and their loved ones.

For fitness and wellness, we organized an afternoon of games, exercise, and fellowship, with activities like table tennis, pickleball, and table soccer, led by Catherine Tan. The event also featured shared experiences from women who completed the Emotionally Healthy Woman study.

At our Thanksgiving event to close off the year, two sisters shared how God had brought them through a difficult year. We had warm fellowship as we learnt how to bake a carrot cake, roast a chicken, and enjoy lunch together.

MEN'S MINISTRY
God continues to bring men of all ages to the Saturday morning small group meetings. Last year, the Men's Ministry leaders hosted a series of forums on various topics, which were well-received and sparked meaningful discussions. We are glad that Edison Teo stepped up to lead the ministry.

Where we are going in 2025

God has begun to work in different ways to foster concern between generations. We expect to see more of such connections in various ways. As we continue to strengthen marriages and help parents disciple their own children, we hope to strengthen the connection between the Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and the parents to empower them to be intentional disciple-makers. Together we can grow the generations to love Jesus passionately and grow leaders as they enter into young adulthood.
