Senior Pastor's Report
Dear Church,
In 2024, we launched our 2028 Focus: Intergenerational Mentoring Towards Disciple Making. This is about building a culture of intergenerational mentoring that will enable us to disciple the next generation, develop leaders and drive our personal mission and evangelism.
DISCIPLESHIP FOCUS
In 2025, we preached through the Epistle to the Philippians, focusing on the theme of “Serving God with Joy in All Circumstances.” This became very pointed in the light of the fire as it challenged us to grow in the 3 key themes of Philippians.
First, can we accept suffering as the norm in serving God? It has been granted to us not only to believe but also to suffer for Christ’s sake.
Second, is the Gospel the priority in our lives? This was Paul’s primary source of joy. This is why he could still rejoice while in prison – because the gospel was still preached strongly in spite of his situation.
Third, are we united in One Mind? This was Pauls’ focus in every chapter as he tried to rebuild the unity of the Philippi church.
Our challenge now is to continue serving God with joy in this circumstance – after the fire. We are grateful that our church is doing that right now.
STAFFING
In 2025, we said goodbye to Ps Jimmy Won and Rev Ho Kum Weng. We thank Ps Jimmy and Rev Ho for faithfully serving as our Missions Pastor and Chinese Congregational Pastor respectively. Rev Ho had been serving with us since 2008, while Ps Jimmy was our missionary to Sawa from 2007 and thereafter, our Missions Pastor from 2023 to 2025. We wish them God’s continued favour and blessing on their lives.
Ps Dawn Lee has stepped up as Chinese Congregational Pastor from 1 Oct 2025. We also welcomed Rev Ivan Liew back as our Missions Pastor.
Mr Loh Choong Seng became our liaison with Woodlands Social Centre (WSC), to bring about a closer integration between church and WSC.
Mr Adriel Lim, who had been exploring God’s call to full-time ministry, joined us as a ministry associate on 1 October to continue discerning God’s direction for him.
Ps Vernon Song has completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology at College of Allied Educators.
Mrs Khoo Hern Ern has completed her Master of Arts in Counselling at TCA College.
Mr Khoo Seng Khong will attain his Master of Arts in Biblical Studies in 2026 at Singapore Bible College and expects to complete his Master of Divinity in May 2028.
KEY EVENTS
We explored a new format for our Season of Prayer by producing videos on 3 key issues relevant to us as a church and as a nation. These videos aimed to present the issues from God’s point of view and were delivered through the LCG structure. They connected well with us and helped us to understand God’s heart on the matter, which drove us to intercede together with a real concern for God’s concerns.
The fire on 28 September took us by complete surprise and shock, but it did not surprise God. He had prepared us to live through it with our lessons from Philippians and the real church which is the body of Christ remains united and strong.
LOOKING FORWARD
There is much work to be done in the repair and restoration of Bethel Hall after the fire. The life of the church continues to grow in our LCGs and we are glad to see the church’s commitment to gather for worship, even though it is at a less preferred time. May we continue to come together as one family to serve the Lord with Joy.
We need to continue pressing forward to serve Woodlands through our Woodlands Social Centre, and hope to see a greater involvement from the congregation in WSC programs, as an outflow of our growth in discipleship.
In 2026, we wish to bring our intergeneration focus to the whole church and to involve the Next Generation leaders in the leadership of the church. Do pray with us as we work towards these goals. Do also continue praying for God to speak clearly to call our young people to full time ministry.
May we all enjoy the journey of rediscovering life before the Throne of God in the year ahead!
